eyebrow raising

O LJ-friends:

This pressing subject of enquiry appears in my consciousness:

Are you able to raise one of your eyebrows, to indicate surprise, alarm, aaaagghhh, etc.? If so, which one? Is it the same side as your dominant hand? Can you do both, and if so, are they equally strong?

For the sake of accuracy, we will define the ability as follows: the ability to control the movement of a single eyebrow through a substantial range of motion, largely independent of other muscle groups. Thus it doesn't count if you can raise one eyebrow but only by scrunching up your opposite cheek, bending down, kinking your neck to the side, and splaying out your toes.

I lack the ability to do polls, so please just leave comments. Send your friends here and have them do it, too.

Eep!

Indeed.

I have the ability to raise my left eyebrow quite sardonically. (That word reminds me of Mr. Rochester). Only my left, I fear. Oh, and I am right-handed. I don't know if that means anything.

Speaking of stupid human tricks, I also can wiggle my ears!

I can raise either eyebrow independently. Strangely enough, although it feels slightly more natural to raise my right eyebrow, I can raise the left one higher. I'm right-handed, although some tests have me as left-hand dominant.

I definitely cannot raise either independently. and I'm completely righthanded.

I can only raise my left eyebrow, and not very impressively. I'm right-handed. I attempt to raise my eyebrow to show contempt and disdain or disbelief. things like that. I can't raise my right eyebrow at all by itself.

I can fully raise my right eyebrow and I'm left-hand dominant. I can sometimes get my left eyebrow to do a bit, but I don't have fully independent movement with it.

i can do this with my left eyebrow (the outer half of it moves upward, but the inside stays pretty much stationary -- the mr. spock eyebrow raise, pretty much).

i'm a righty. i can't move my right eyebrow independent of anything.

my eyebrows are not talented

I went to the mirror and looked. Now, it's possible that I can do this when I'm not paying attention -- but when I AM paying attention, it's both eyebrows or nothing. But I can curl my tongue! KBE

I can raise my just my right eyebrow rather well (making my mother, who cannot, horribly jealous). I am capable of raising just my left eyebrow, but I have to concentrate much harder (the right one is fairly automatic) and it still doesn't work as well. I'm right-handed.

Eyebrows

Hollis.. you certainly are a character.

..but to appease you, I can raise only one eyebrow, and it is the opposite of my dominant hand.

Right eyebrow. And it's something I do all the time.

The left eyebrow I can raise independently, but it takes rather more concentration, and especially to keep the rest of my face from twitching with it. The right one is easy and automatic.

And I'm right-handed.

The movement is very slight and it involves many of the muscles in my forehead. Both move about equally--which is not very much, and probably does not meet the standard of your definition. I am a righty.

I can raise my left eyebrow only, and am right-handed.

I am very much right handed.

I can raise both eyebrows equally high, but in doing so I lower the other eyebrow. I can bring my right eyebrow down and in more (indicating more control), which makes my left eyebrow appear raised.

If I do I quizzical look, I will lower my right and raise my left by default.

It seems like all my muscles are attached to each other, and I can't do any fun things like raise one eyebrow. If I raise one, I raise both. I can't roll my R's with my tongue. I can't make the alien V symbol with my fingers. I think I was given one of the most boring bodies ever :-P

HEY!!

Hey don't sweat it, i was never able to do things like you mentioned but i managed to teach myself to do the alien V, wiggle my ears and raise an eyebrow on its own. TAKES SOME PRACTICE BUT ITS POSSIBLE!!

I can raise either eyebrow independently, but always use the left one to indicate bemusement, sardonicness, etc. And I'm right-handed. And also right-eye-dominant, incidentally.

I can raise my left eyebrow moderately well, but am right-handed.

i can only control my right eyebrow freely. i can move the left one independently if i try, but this mostly has to do with my bout of Bell's Palsy in high school.. so most of the left side of my face, while it works, doesn't feel as right when i do it. i'm left handed.

(this is julie g)

i can raise my left eyebrow, and do so frequently to indicate disdain, wry amusement, and sarcasm. it's fun. it also comes in handy when i'm singing arias of the maid-who's-smarter-than-anyone-else-in-the-opera soubrette type -- mein herr marquis from die fledermaus, for instance, or anything of susanna's from the marriage of figaro.

i can barely raise my right eyebrow, and only by squinching my left eye.

i'm right-handed.

Can raise left eyebrow pretty well, right not at all. Am woefully completely right-handed.

I cannot raise one eyebrow by itself :( and I am mostly right-handed. I can, however, raise either brow equally high if I scrunch the opposite eye!!

I can do both, separately. I usually use my left eyebrow to indicate skepticism and my right one to indicate naughtiness.

I can lift my left eyebrow. And I'm right handed. And I know I'm right eye dominant. So I don't know if it means anything.

Eyebrow raising

I'm right handed and I can only raise my right eyebrow. I can get my left one to lift if I raise my right one -but not by it's self- it doesn't want to do anything...it's frustrating and I don't understand it.

eyebrows

I can raise my left eyebrow totally independently, and I can raise my right eyebrow only if I am furrowing my left eyebrow. I'm a righty.

eyebrow raising

can raise my left and do so often to express various moods - to the irritation of others!
Right is stubbornly immobile.
Am right handed but can write with my left but ws stopped from doing so as a child. Use left eye to photograph, left ear on phone and carry bags on left shoulder.
